Docket Lite

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how Docket Lite works and what happens to your data.

Is Docket Lite really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no ads and no paid tier. If it helps you, there is an optional tip link, but you never need it.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the page and start adding applications. There is nothing to register.

Where is my data stored?

Only in your own browser, on your own device. It is not sent to a server, so nobody else can see it. Clearing your browser data erases it, so download a backup now and then.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Your list is erased, because it only exists in that browser. Docket Lite reminds you to download a backup once you have a few applications, and you can restore a backup at any time by pasting it into the Restore box.

Can I use it on two devices?

There is no sync, by design, because that would mean storing your data on a server. To move your list, download a backup on one device and paste it into Restore on the other. You can also export a CSV and import it.

What can I track?

For each application: institution, programme, type (Master's, PhD, postdoc, job, fellowship or scholarship), deadline, status, recommendation letters and your own notes.

Can I add deadlines to my calendar?

Yes. You can export upcoming deadlines as a calendar file with reminders a week and a day before. It works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook.

Can I move my spreadsheet into Docket Lite?

Yes. Open Your data, then Import from a spreadsheet, and paste or upload a CSV. You see a preview first and duplicates are flagged. You can also export your list to CSV at any time. There is a free template on the spreadsheet template page.

Is it only for PhD applications?

No. It works for Master's programmes, PhDs, fellowships, scholarships, postdocs and jobs.

Does it predict whether I will be admitted?

No. Docket Lite only helps you stay organised. It is independent and not connected to any university or admissions body.
